So evidently the feeling you get when you finally print out all 109 pages of your thesis draft is...anti-climax. Maybe it's because my appleworks-cum-word document was being an absolute pain in the ass ((oh, where'd this indented quote go? off the imaginary margin of the screen!)), or maybe it's because the intro and conclusion are nowhere near as good as the rest of it is, but there it is, denouement and a thick fat pile of barely-stapled thesis to my left, complete with a hot-pink post-it to my thesis advisor.

At least til I get my hands on an English translation of Limited Inc and get some comments back, I'm...done with it, for a little while. Yay!

Anti-climax can be satisfying too, though, can't it? Congrats :) Hope you had a wonderful break.

Absolutely.

Are you coming to my house Saturday? I hope so!

Connnnngratulations, Oli. For a little while, of course. That sounds really relieving, as anti-climatic as it might also be.

I think once I drop it off in the phil office the sense of relief will hit.

Ha. I can't wait to swap thesis writing and thesis advisor stories with you when you finally make it up to Boston. Mmm.

Damn. I'm impressed. I'm not sure if I ever really had a full first draft of my thesis... certainly not one that was anywhere near that long. congrats:)

Thanks Alison. Maybe it's different from department to department-- philosophy has a due date for a 1st and a final draft.

wow, amazing! oli, titchadesh. i hope to one day see it, if that's not too ambitious a statement from myself, and if that's not too forward to you.

i don't know you at all (though we have some common lj friends) but i love that you just used the word "titchadesh." it's such an excellent word and there's really no english for it.

and oli, congrats! it should only get better from here.

Ilan it is, and you're Gavin, yes? I read about you sometimes :)

I live in Cambridge, MA now. You?

goodness, massechussets! that's a lovely state. my partner took me there.

i live in montreal. yup, it's gavin indeed. i've been asking my aba about hebrew names, though. he's rather unhelpful--unfortunately it's ima who's good with such things and she is not too supportive of gavin (my birth name is a hebrew boy's name, so i am sort of stuck anyway, because now i want one that is not that). how did you find ilan? (if you don't mind my asking)

my little sister lives in montreal. from my few visits it seems like quite a nice city.

i was lucky that my name translated from girl to boy while retaining it's meaning and origin pretty easily. i was invested in it being hebrew, and i also didn't really care that much (by which i mean, i spent months decided whether or not i cared, and ultimately came up with "no") about having any sort of sharp separation with the past so....ilan it was. is.

what names are you thinking of? (i'm assuming you don't want gavriel or gavi). i asked my parents for name help too, but they didn't really have suggestions, other than keeping it close and making sure i had a name that sounded like it could have come from them.

Oli, I'm sorry this is taking up your journal space.

Gavin, want to be friends and continue elsewhere?

wow. congratulations. 109 pages holy shit! the climax probably comes around the third or fourth celebratory round. i would really like to hear about it sometime (your thesis that is). maybe we can have a virtual drinking date like a pair of telephones and a whole bunch of whiskey.

thank you Shaz! I still can't believe I missed you this winter-- I'm so sorry I dropped the ball. I like the idea of a phone date w/whiskey in the interim. mwah!
